Benjamin Burton, Pianist
Benjamin Burton is a talented young pianist with a passion for accompanying vocal and instrumental performances. In his role as accompanist, Ben has toured with the widely acclaimed Ten Sopranos, recently performing in Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and much of New South Wales. In 2013 Ben traveled to the Moorambilla Voices festival where performed with the Song Company under Roland Peelman, and the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus.
Ben studied Piano Performance with an accompaniment focus at the Sydney Conservatorium and studied accompaniment with David Miller, also having studied with Bernadette Harvey, David Howie and Stephen Mould. In 2011, 2012, 2013 he won the Mollie Neale award for highest marks in accompaniment and he has also participated in master classes with Yvonne Kenny, Carlo Barricello, Adam Guettel, Sue Newsome, Dr. Michael Halliwell, Maree Ryan and Ole Bohn.
Ben has accompanied a variety of other choirs including Sydney Conservatorium Choir, Sydney University Graduate Choir, the International Grammar School choirs and the Arts Unit. Other work has included an audition and diction pianist for the Sydney Conservatorium, Sydney Eisteddfod, casual tutor/pianist for the University of Western Sydney, official accompanist for the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod and NSW Band Association, a performance of Menotti's 'The Telephone' with Jennifer Bonner and Alex Knight. Ben has also been repetiteur for the Conservatorium Opera Company's productions at La Finta Giardiniera (Mozart), Trouble in Tahiti (Bernstein) and La Recontre imprévue Die Pilger von Mekka (Gluck).
2014 saw Ben continuing to perform across the country in many capacities, and he traveled to Germany for the month of July to play for an opera school in Munich.
Meinir Ann Thomas, Soprano
Welsh born soprano Meinir Ann Thomas has enjoyed a varied career. She is a former member of the The Swingle Singers. During her 5 years with them she performed at many of the world’s greatest opera houses, concert halls, theatres and jazz clubs.
She was honoured to have had the opportunity to perform the Welsh National Anthem at the Australia v Wales rugby union test match in Etihad Stadium, Melbourne in June 2012.
Meinir is a versatile soloist who is at home singing jazz as she is singing musical theatre, folk or classical repertoire. She sings at weddings, concerts and events. She also performs and records with other artists and ensembles in Australia. These include Harp Divas, Cantillation, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and The Ten Sopranos. She has performed with Halcyon, The Parson's Affayre, Eminence Orchestra and various church choirs.
Meinir teaches voice, and conducts vocal workshops for a cappella groups. Her a cappella arrangements have been performed by The Swingle Singers and the Australian Brandenburg Choir.
In the UK, Meinir also worked as a freelance vocalist and voice teacher in London and South Wales. She has sung with a funk band, performed on board cruise liners, and was a backing vocalist in the West End and in touring shows.
For the time being, Meinir is sorely missed as she pursues new and exciting opportunities in Wales.
David Hidden, Baritone
David has had a life long love affair with with jazz. His formative years were spent playing the saxophone, and he was introduced to the intricate harmonies of vocalese on his father's knee, listening to Lambert, Hendricks and Ross classics.
David started singing during his time at university and went on to graduate from the Advanced Diploma of Opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2011.
David splits his musical life between opera, choral and jazz singing, having appeared with Opera Australia, Pinchgut Opera, and Opera Bites, Cantillation and The Song Company.
